The procedure of getting a porcelain veneer applied to a tooth is quite simple and you need not worry. First of all, explain to your Belmont dentist the issues you have been having with the particular tooth and they will be able to advise as to whether or not a porcelain veneer would be suitable. If the dentist feels that the veneer is required then they will be able to start the procedure on the day or in the next appointment. If required an X-ray may also be performed and your dentist will remove about half a millimeter of enamel from the tooth and prepare the tooth for bonding. The veneer is then checked on the tooth to confirm whether the shape, size and color match with the tooth and the requirements of the patient. Bonding is final step where a bio-compatible and special cement is used to ensure that the veneer is correctly bonded to the tooth and the procedure is done. You can visit the dentist after a few weeks to check the veneer’s placement.
The major advantage of porcelain veneers is that gum tissue is not affected by porcelain. Also, veneers are resistant to staining from smoking or drinking coffee and last an average of 5-8 years. Thus, porcelain veneers are an ideal solution to improve the aesthetics of teeth.
